About Balaji Arts
A press floor that still answers its own phone.
Balaji Arts has been printing from Malad West, Mumbai for over three decades. It is not a large operation and does not pretend to be — its argument is that the person who takes your call is the person who checks the sheet.

The story
Three decades at a press teaches you what a brochure cannot.
There is a kind of knowledge that only comes from running the same machine for a long time. Knowing by eye that the ink is running heavy before anything measures it. Knowing which board will crack on the crease and which will not. Knowing that a label a customer has specified will lift at the edge within a week, because the bottle it goes on comes out of a chiller.
None of that is on a spec sheet. It is the reason the same customers keep coming back, and the reason a job quoted here tends to arrive as the thing that was described.
Balaji Arts today prints across six categories — from barcode labels to mono cartons to bill books — from a single unit at BJ Patel Industrial Estate.

It started with the press
The business began where most print businesses begin: one machine, a small floor, and jobs won by turning work around properly when someone needed it.
Labels and packaging followed
Customers who came for letterheads started asking for the label that went on the bottle, and then the carton the bottle went into. The catalogue grew because customers pulled it that way.
The same people are still on the floor
Balaji Arts never became a business where the person quoting the job and the person running it are different people. That is deliberate, and it is why the answers you get are direct.
How it grew
The catalogue grew because customers pulled it, not because a strategy pushed it.
A press, a floor, and word of mouth
Balaji Arts started as a general printing business serving local traders and manufacturers in and around Malad — the work that keeps a business running rather than the work that wins awards.
Into labels, cartons and finishing
As customers moved into packaged product, the shop moved with them: self-adhesive labels, mono cartons, die-cutting and the finishing that makes a shelf product look finished.
Six categories, one floor
The catalogue today runs across labels, packaging, commercial print, promotion, tags and custom work — still run hands-on from the same unit in Malad West.

How we work
Three things that decide whether a print job goes well.
Approve before you print
Colour and die-lines are signed off on a proof, not discovered on delivery. It is the cheapest possible moment to find a problem, and the last one where fixing it is free.
The substrate decides everything
Most label failures are not print failures. They are the wrong adhesive on the wrong surface for the wrong environment. Getting that conversation right up front saves the whole job.
The reprint has to match
Anyone can print a good first run. The test of a printer is whether batch four still matches batch one — which is why colour targets are kept and referenced, not re-guessed.
